Hi, would you accept a PR adding the python paho mqtt client, and of course some ui for the web - app? I believe this is related to I am usually happy to receive, review and merge PRs.

But when it comes to adding stuff to the motionEyeOS image which I do my best to keep small, I tend to filter packages. I don't expect users to code too much against it and configuration should be as simple as possible. If you want to maintain an extended fork of motionEyeOS, with many other packages that users request, I'd be happy to help. I can understand that you don't agree with me, but I'm expecting a reason : What exactly do you not agree with?

But ok, don't bother. I do this in a fork now :- g. I am doing this here because lots of people including my taller got rubbed in our village and I am working out a reliable solution, especially for the case the camera system went entirely off the thieves indeed cut power and phone cables first.

You won't be able to properly use MQTT with motionEye without setting a wrapper script for all events. Not sure where to begin, I admit.

Aren't you calling some user shell command when it's triggered? That would be the perfect place to activate the MQTT client. Thanks already for your heads up on this, despite we should relax on the sofa this days. Well as I said, you could manually configure wrapper scripts for the Run A Command options.

For me it would be beneficial to have events or paths to new videos published for easy integration into my home automation system, issue could maybe be resolved by just sending events onto the bus and let the consumers do what they want with them rather than local scripts that get executed.

That would be nice to have it part of the image. I was just thinking about installing mosquitto and wrapping mine in a script, too. Sounds like that's the current approach to do then? Briefly, I set up an email server on the Pi, have the camera email the Pi, have the email server trigger a script which parses the email for key words and sends MQTT signals as appropriate, at which point the home-assistant MQTT client sees them and triggers automations like blinking a light to scare people off.

NOTE: Do not do this on a public server! If you have any access to the pi from the internet this can put you at risk of becoming a spam drone or worse. If you want set up a legit public email server, you have to do a lost more work. Most cameras foscam, amcrest, etc. Have them send an email to the raspberry pi.

Trigger the motion event and look at what the emails look like so you can figure out what to read from them to trigger motion alarms and maybe all clears. Home-assistant has some nice info on setting up a MQTT broker.
